Well, the big rumor this year is that Apple will be switching from IBM to Intel for it's processors. Does that mean we'll start seeing x86 machines from Apple? I guess if the rumor is true, then yes. Of course, there is also always the option that Intel would start making ppc chips, which would be very innnnteresting. But it's all just rumor at this point, no matter who's reporting it.

But let's just say hypothetically that Apple does switch to x86, what does that mean for me? It means I've got a great excuse to buy another mac is what it means! Woohoo!

But as far as building VoodooPad and FlySketch for x86, I don't think it would be a ton of work. Apple already put alot of thought into how apps are built on OS X, and I imagine that there would just be another binary in the application bundle that I've got right now. So in all likelihood you would still download a single application wrapped around a dmg, and just drag and drop it to your applications folder like you do today. And since I don't have any ppc specific code in my apps, it's all probably just a recompile.

The same is probably true for all your other favorite apps from the indie companies- Ranchero, Panic, maybe even the audio stuff from Rogue Amoeba (I say maybe because alot of times there is specific processor code in audio apps to speed things up).

Of course, this is all just speculation. I'm still putting my bets on something being behind that /movies folder.
