VoodooPad progress report-

I'm still working towards the first beta. My original plan was to have the first beta done by August, but I'm going to miss that deadline in about 4 hours. What I really need to do is to quit my day job and spend some quality time with VoodooPad and it's sister projects (VPStash/vpwiki), but alas that's not going to happen any time soon. (You can breathe now Ken.)

Tonight I'm working on the "Online Wiki" part of VoodooPad. It's been revamped so that when VoodooPad talks to a remote server, it is actually communicating with it through a local script- which has a couple of advantages. The main advantage is that this will let VoodooPad talk to non-vpwiki servers just by adding a new script in the the Application Support folder. Of course someone has to write that script first, but I'm supplying at least one to get things started. VoodooPad 2.0 also supports Rendezvous, so if there are any wiki servers on the local network it'll let you know, which is pretty cool.

So yea, it feels good to be working on this code because it's something that I think has alot of potential and is fun to program as well. My mind is always racing with the possibilities of what I could do. But unfortunately I don't think that expanding on all those ideas in VoodooPad is the right way to do it. Trying to make an app that works with pages across a network and in a cross platform way vs. editing local files is just an exercise in frustration. I think that's a job for a separate app (one of which I'm not currently working on.. no product announcements here today!).

I'm not removing the online editing code from VoodooPad, no worries there. And I'm still making improvements to it as well, I'm just not going to be expanding on them like I really want to. Which sucks, but is good as well- because it will give me more time to focus on making VoodooPad a much better app for editing local documents. This is the the goal I should be striving for, and is what VoodooPad is really all about.
