thats right. Panic is right. There is NO need for custom icons/widgets. Apple knows what they're doing. Trust Apple. They paid a lot of very smart people an awfull lot of money to come up with their interfaces.

I had a long post about metal and ProKit, and the coolness factor and the whole vicious cycle with the dev community and Apple one-upping each other in customizing an app's look. But it really just boiled down to two points.

I don't think ProKit should be lumped into brush metal, ProKit was a really good thing, it's just too bad it's not a public api for company's like adobe and macromedia to use, as they design custom widgets to make aqua work. ProKit provides a standard user interface that has smaller margins, smaller controls, less color, zooming scrollbars, and most importantly left align tabs! Things the make the interface a bit more intimidating but much more efficient. It really makes sense to have a separate set of UI widgets for use in Expert Interfaces rather and not in novice interfaces.

Zach- but Apple is goofing up just as much as everyone else- that's my point. ProKit - why? Metal - huh? And this new iTunes stuff... hrm.
