So I've been looking at a friend of mine's code ( Ok, it's Andy ) that he uses for clients and projects of his. It's a content management system, for driving websites. He named the system "Gestalt". It's written in Cold Fusion, which means I'm not quite sure what's going on with all the stuff since I'm pretty unfamiliar with the language. But with all languages, you can kinda tell what's going on with it. Oh anyway, the reason I'm looking at the code is because I was pestering him about wanting to see if I could port it to java for kicks. I figured it might make for a neat little project that I could have some fun with. (I know, I'm sick... aren't I?). Just looking over the code it looks like the only thing I'll be able to steal is the logic and the database... which is all I was really expecting to get anyway, since I think the way CF does things is pretty different from the way java does things... however it might port easier to jsp first... we'll see. One of the neater things with this code base (besides it being actually used for real projects that bring in real money as opossed to alot of my ideas ) is that you can tell Andy put alot of love into this code. It's all nicely organized, and tidy. The indentation is flawless and consistent. This is so much unlike any other time I've come across code that I've never seen before, it's a really pleasent suprise. I just wish I understood CF a bit more. That's some Neat Shit™, Andy - it's certainly something to be proud of from what I can tell from here. comments (0) # posted 11:15 pm (uct-6) How about some code you'll never read or understand? Download the program that runs this website over on GMJa's page. comments (0) # posted 10:54 pm (uct-6) So I've got a microsoft natural pro keyboard. Actually, I've got two of em.. one for work and one for home, and I've been using them for years. They rock. Anyway, even though I've been using them for years, it's only within the past week or so that I've even bothered to use all the extra buttons on it... one to open up my browser, on for mail... some to mute/change the volume... two buttons for switching to the next/previous tracks in itunes... forward and back in the browser... etc. And if I don't like what they do, I can reprogram them to do something else. Cool. Makes it alot easier to skip songs in iTunes. I didn't really have a point to this post, except to say "Cool!". And to also say "dangit- I think they discontinued my keybaord." But it looks like this one might be a sutable replacement. Then again they also have some wireless keyboards that use bluetooth which looks cool too... but they don't have the "natural split" keyboard. Their software may mostly suck (notice I said mostly), but their keyboards rule. oh... wait... I want this one ... it's wireless, but it doesn't use bluetooth. Gotta have bluetooth for the geek factor. comments (0) # posted 2:06 pm (uct-6) From a wiser man than me: Paul: i have discovered their ploy w/ being cold all the time.
